Dear Anthony Bourdain,

Thank you for one fabulous evening with you at the Escondido Center For The Arts. Your opening had me laughing so hard and also made me wonder about some my favorite foodie shows. The whole thing was inspiring. One of my favorite parts about the night was when you spoke about trying new things when your traveling, taking that other direction down some weird ally way to find a new off the path place to eat. I also enjoyed the part about "if the locals are lined up, it must be good...".
Before we took our seats I was able to pick up one of your books. The Anthony Bourdain’s Les Halles Cookbook, I'm looking forward to cooking from it!

I absolutely loved the show. I would go again in a heartbeat. I wish it was being recorded with DVD's for sale because I would totally pick one up. I hope you continue all that you do, Its really neat to live your adventures through you!

Thank you again,

San Diego - Dine & Devour

Dine & Devour
We are walking at sunset on the beach in San Diego, right on the border of Mexico. All we have to our name is a few shots of tequila in our system, enough ceviche to make the animals at Sea World wail in mourning, and some skimpy black bikinis. The light of the sunset makes a mirage like quality on the water; suddenly, we see a Saloon style bar floating on the water. We swim out and there Rebecca Louise greets us. She slides a couple more shots to us across this magical bar and says, “I was the one who put the worm in the tequila.” We pause and laugh thinking she is joking. “No”, she says, “I put the worm in there for the sake of all poor foodies like me. Once you consume the worm you end up in some dreamlike tropical paradise. I did that for all the foodies in the world who cannot travel to eat their hearts desire.” We laughed again. We were drunk but not that drunk. So we kept on floating in that magical bar across the ocean to an Island with a volcano made of mole sauce.

Regal As A Beagle At The Regal Beagle

Happy hour at the Regal Beagle on a Wednesday consist of 25cent wings!
25cent wings?! Who else has an awesome thing like that?!

So far this is my favorite place for sweet potato fries! They are so good, cooked to perfection, just a bit thick, and perfectly salted - yum I'm drooling just typing this.

So here is my problem - I've only been for the happy hour wingsday and mini-dog-Monday. I need to make it there for the sausages they also serve. I've had lots of people tell me they are excellent.

They offer plenty of types of beer. I also fail at this because I'm not really a drinker, as much as I long to be I'm just not. But my friends and husband keep heading back for the beer so they must be doing something right. My Matt and Mat get this taster thing with smaller glasses of different types of beers on it. They finish it every time, talk about each one, nod their heads and smile... The beers are good!
The atmosphere is awesome it reminds me of a pub I'd find back in England and the staff is really friendly.

Check 'em out! I'm going to lots more!

Bruschetta Is Pronounced [brusˈketta]

Bruschetta (Italian pronunciation: [brusˈketta] - is a hearty appetizer from central Italy whose origin dates to at least the 15th century. It consists of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with extra-virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. Variations may include toppings of spicy red pepper, tomato, vegetables, beans, cured meat, and/or cheese; the most popular recipe outside of Italy involves basil, fresh tomato, garlic and onion or mozzarella. Bruschetta is usually served as a snack or appetizer. In Italy, Bruschetta is often prepared using a brustolina grill. In the Abruzzo region of Italy a variation of bruschetta called ventricina is served. Raw pork products and spices encased in pig vesicles are aged and the paste spread on open slices of bread which are sometimes grilled.

I tend to make this quite a bit.
My basil grows outta control and when my tomatoes were growing it was a perfect way to take advantage of my fresh garden.

Its a really simple recipe and all you need is:

Tomatoes - diced

Red onion and garlic - diced

Basil - leaves picked off stem, rolled up and sliced into little bits

Olive oil, salt, balsamic vinegar - salt to taste, 2 parts vinegar, 1 part oil

Then mix and top on your favorite bread!
I like French baguettes.

Wait! What?! Mission Valley Smashburger!

Yes! Its here! And starting tomorrow YOU can get your Smashburger on!
No excuses now San Diego friends there is a Smashburger close to you.

You've heard me tell you how fabulous this place it, well it's Smash-a-licious, and now you can check it out for yourself. There is plenty for all - from burgers, sides to salads and shakes.

Tonight we had a lovely dinner with my husband and his parents. I did get the same ol' (Smash-a-licious) San Diego burger and sweet potato fries. But they are soooooo good!

We also got a sample of shakes. So I've now tasted Oreo, Chocolate, Strawberry, and vanilla... I think strawberry is my favorite! I'm usually a chocolate shake girl but I really like Smashburgers strawberry shake.

So go on down and check 'em out!

7676 Hazard Center Drive
(between Frazee Road & Hazard Center East Drwy)
San Diego, CA 92108

P.S. Its right next door to Yogurtland!
